Free AI Mocap Tool Released New Version to Bring Higher Quality
Rokoko is a company that provides animation production software for motion capture. It has produced equipment including Smartsuit Pro, Smartgloves, Face Capture, etc and is considered as a motion capture specialist in the industry. So although there are many browser-based mocap tool that integrated AI, Rokoko’s product is definitely worth a look.
Rokoko’s browser-based motion capture was first launched in December last year and was named Rokoko Video. The tool, available for free, can be used to extract full-body motion from a video that users recorded with a webcam, smartphone, DSLR camera or uploaded from other devices. And then, the animation data extracted can be edited with the company’s free motion capture data-processing software, Rokoko Studio to clean and export the data into .fbx or .bvh format for further creation in 3D programs like 3ds Max, Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, etc.
Rokoko Vision, the new version of Rokoko Video, is released this with a dual-camera feature that helps to optimize the capture quality and brings a more accurate result with “two cameras of any kind”.
According to Rokoko, the dual-camera inputs allows the “A.I. system to better reconstruct the motion than a single camera input, as it can better estimate depth and get a clearer view of a performer’s body at all times (occlusion reduction)”.
Single camera remains free to all but a free Starter account on Rokoko’s website is required. As for dual-camera mode, a 14-day free trial is provided, and after which a Plus subscription plan that cost $240/year is required. Also still possible to use Rokoko Studio to clean up the data before export in Rokoko Vision and Rokoko Studio is compatible with 64-bit Windows 10+ and macOS 11.0+.
